Uses

Prednisolone is indicated for the treatment of multiple conditions including adrenal insufficiency (Addison's disease); inflammation; autoimmune diseases, such as lupus, pemphigus, and some anemias; allergies including atopy; asthma; some cancers; and certain types of colitis and kidney diseases (nephrotic syndrome).

Possible Side Effects

Side effects are usually dose-dependent. If side effects occur, contact your vet, who may decrease the dosage, frequency or type of corticosteroid. Possible side effects include stomach upset and increased thirst, urination and/or appetite. Other adverse reactions include hair thinning, fatigue, muscle weakness, high blood pressure, sudden weight gain and panting. Extended use may induce diabetes or Cushings disease. Contact your vet immediately if you notice any strange behaviors or symptoms after administering Prednisolone.

Drug & Food Interactions

Many medications may interact with Prednisolone or lessen/change its effects. Talk to your veterinarian about all other medications and supplements your pet is taking prior to administering Prednisolone.

Precautions

Pets with systemic fungal infections, certain types of mange, stomach ulcers, Cushing's disease, high blood pressure, kidney disease, liver disease, diabetes or heart disease should not take this medication. Pregnant and lactating dogs should not take Prednisolone. Dogs who are allergic to Prednisolone or similar medication should not be given this medication.
